We walk towards a global village and in which all the institutions, at local, regional, national and european level are encouraging all the tele-communication policies in order reach a stronger co-operation among all the social and economic agents. European SMEs and specially those from Granada, cannot stay impassive facing this revolution, they have to transform their traditional working methods and to adapt them to New Information Technologies, including in their organisations IT systems and telematic services in order to increase their competitiveness and communication. Co-operation and exchanging of experiences and resource among SMEs is of great importance to establish a solid base on which SMEs can strengthen their development establishing information channels that make possible to optimise resources and aids.
Granada is included in a Region objective 1, therefore in a less favoured Region of The European Union. To this we have to add that the Metropolitan Area of Granada doesn´t count with a high level of industries. The business network in this area is very poor and the SMEs normally belong to the service sector and most of them are familiar enterprises.
SMEs have to face a real modernization challenge which in case of being successful, will mean a big step forward in terms of results, quality and way of making business.
By means of the SINTIGRA Project we want to make SMEs manager aware in their decision making regarding the use of New Information Technologies and make them able to adapt them to the needs of their own enterprises.
The general
objectives of the SINTIGRA Project are:
- To make aware SMEs from Granada about Information Society.
- To support SMEs of Granada, helping them in the integration of New Information Technologies
- To promote growth, competitiveness, communication and information in the SMEs
- To disseminate the most important telematic services and the main Data Bases of business institutions.
- To support co-operation and exchanging of experiences and resources among economic agents.
- To establish a solid and permanent platform in with the development of information channels make possible optimisation of resources and aids.
- To identify new market opportunities.
3. PROPOSED SERVICES AND PROJECT CONTENTS
3.1 Organisation of an awareness seminar on the SINTIGRA project and on New Information Technologies for SMEs.
Before beginning with the integration of the New Technologies in the enterprises, we will carry out an information seminar on the SINTIGRA project. To this seminar, a large number of SMEs are invited, in order to identify the potential pilot companies. In this seminar we will distribute information on the project, and an application form for the enterprises interested in participating in the SINTIGRA Project.
3.2 Selection of 15 SMEs (that have participated in the seminar) in order to implement the Project in these SMEs.
The interested firms will express their interest in participating in the project, by means of an application form, which will contain different information on the enterprises. With these information we will select those 15 more suitable enterprises for the SINTIGRA project.

seminars on integration of New Information Technologies
We will organise 6 different seminars for managers, and IT users of the selected enterprises. These seminars are target on giving an useful information on the different possibilities of IT. We want these seminars to be very demostrative, in order to show all these effective possibilities. The 6 seminars are following:

In a first stage we will help all the enterprises to implement all these technologies and to solve all the technical problems. Once all the enterprises are connected to the internet, in second stage, we will keep this connection (by means of our own server) during the life time of the project.

New market opportunities
3.7 Specialized training
During these last 7 months of the project we will offer more specific seminars on different items selected by the own enterprises. It will be interesting to provide for example training on creation and maintenance of Websites so that the enterprises can maintain and update their websites. This is as well the time to offer more detailed training on E-Business.
By means of the website of the project and by means of the queries made to the consulting service, we will detect the interest of the enterprises.
We will at least carry out three specialized seminars.
3.8 Study visit to an enterprise which has successfully introduced New Information Technologies.
With this service we want to show how an enterprise can make a best use of the Newest IT. In this visit will participate the Managers or Directors of the participating enterprises. We will search an enterprise within the national area (Spain).
4. EUROPEAN DIMENSION
Our project aims to be a pilot action to be carried out in 15 SMEs of Granada. These Enterprises commit themselves to participate in the exchanging of experiences, both, with other european enterprises and with the other organisation participating in the PROMISE programme.
If we are successful with this experience we will apply this method within other european projects and exchange our experience with the transnational Partners.
On the other hand we hope to create with the other participating organisation in the PROMISE programmes a collaboration network for IT programmes.
5. LINKAGES TO OTHER PROJECTS AND PROGRAMMES
The SINTIGRA Project finds mainly synergy with two other projects run by the IMFE:
These projects and all the other can be visited in our website: www.imfegranada.es
6. ANTICIPATED IMPACT
At the moment the SMES of the metropolitan area of Granada are suffering great changes in different scopes, which require the use of New Information Technologies to be competitive.
The SINTIGRA Project collaborates in showing the benefits not only of the use of New Information Technologies, but also of the need of flexibility and adaptation of the SMEs to keep themselves competitive.
At the same time, and as we stated before, the greatest number of enterprises in Granada, belong to the service sector. Just in the last years have begun to appear a reduced number of enterprises from the industrial sector, which needs a more specific computing equipment. In this kind of enterprises, the SINTIGRA project will be for sure a great help.
